Star Wars: The Old Republic
Released January, 2010
Star Wars: The Old Republic is a story-driven, massively multiplayer online RPG video game developed by BioWare (Austin) and released by LucasArts for Microsoft Windows. Based on the Star Wars universe, ‘The Old Republic’ centers on an age thousands of years before the rise of Darth Vader, during a time when the world is involved in a war between the Old Republic and the Sith Empire.
Users choose from a class (e.g. Jedi, Sith), befriend companions, and battle enemies in their quest for control of the galaxy. Players have one of two major paths to follow: either the light or the dark side of the Force. Depending on the choices made by the player, they will either earn respect or ‘blow it bigtime’ if they manage to fail to meet NPC expectations.
Additional Information
Despite the incredibly large storyline, ‘The Old Republic’ is still at its base a multiplayer game, and is described by Dr. Ray Muzyka, Co-Friend and General Manager/CEO of Bioware & General Manager/Vice President of Electronic Arts Inc, as “fusing BioWare’s heritage of critically-acclaimed storytelling with the amazing pedigree of Lucasfilm and LucasArts, and adding a brand-new fourth pillar to the equation – a multiplayer universe."
