It's a turn based role playing game developed by Obsidian Entertainment, based on an updated version of BioWare's Odyssey game engine used in the prequel.
The story starts five years after the events of Knights of the Old Republic.
The player's character is baned from the Jedi Order and during the game the connection with the Force will be restored. The player makes choices that can help or hinder the Republic and the remaining Jedi and lead the player either to the light side and unite the Jedi or lead to the dark side.
