S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl

$50.00 Released March, 2007

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Cohesive world with interesting characters. Non-linear structure - can take on different missions at your own pace. Open world structure, just wander and do things.

The Cons:Missions can get a bit repetitive - go here kill X and bring something back. Ultra-realistic gun-play and inventory can have inexperienced players climbing the walls. Ridiculous amount of backtracking.

Another nuclear disaster at Chernobyl. Russian shoulders surround the area, hoping to contain whatever happended within. They begin to hear wierd shrieks and screams coming from the disaster area. Some go in to investigate the noises, some never come back.

They are the STALKERS, searching the 30-kilometer area and reporting there findings back to the authorities.

STALKER is a first person shooter with a very open structure. The creatures look as though they came out of a surrival horror game, the grotesqe monsters that prowl the area are the stuff of nightmares. You are able to drive vehicles or take on the creatures on foot with a large arsenal of weaponry. As you explore the area, you may begin to understand the Chernobyl disaster more clearly. Just hope you survive...

Omar: #s_t_a_l_k_e_r_shadow_of_chernobyl I just beat this game after playing it for a couple of weeks or so. This is my first hardcore Russian/Eastern European FPS and I have to say overall it was definitely a cool experience, but very unrefined. You can tell they had a lot of cool ideas, and in fact a lot of them were implemented pretty well; however, there were some key design holes, particularly in the end of the game that make things quite frustrating.

The harsh difficulty really makes you need to work your butt off to survive, and I did overcome some ridiculously hard parts... but it wasn't that satisfying. The hardest parts I usually just cheesed my way through by picking guys off one by one. Forcing you to be super slow and methodical while more realistic, just isn't very fun. I'm not saying it has to be super run and gun crazy, but a decent balance would've been better.

It's a crazy game though, and I'm really glad that I played it. Definitely leaves a lasting impression. Figuring things out yourself is cool, but for the weaker gamers among us, it's definitely worth going through this with a guide. There's just WAY too much stuff that's too easy to miss. Apr 11, 10
