Half-Life 2
$50.00
Released November, 2005
The Pros:Good voice acting. PC version very expandable. Innovative.
The Cons:Teammates get in your way far too often. You buy it again when you buy the Orange Box, even if you've bought it before. Unintelligent AI, even on harder difficulty levels.
Once again players assume the role of Gordon Freeman, a scientist destined to save the Earth from hordes of gruesome alien attackers. Half-Life 2 takes computer games to a new level of realism with incredible in-game graphics that recreate familiar-looking city streets, and blend them with strange and grotesque monsters, resulting in a believable and at times unsettling environment.

Objects and characters feature accurate physics properties, behaving with the appropriate mass, density, and physical properties of their real-life counterparts. Extremely intelligent computer AI result in enemies that plan, adapt, and respond to the player's actions.
Note: The Windows version of the game that is available to buy in stores is published by Vivendi Universal. Valve also self-published the title with their online-only distribution mechanism Steam.

GT-D:
#half_life_2 tons of fun - loved the half life series from its inception.
The HL2/Steam engine is amazingly scalable. Really churns out some beautiful graphics on my better computer (GF8800GTS, OCZ RAM, Core2Duo and other such almost top-end stuff)

#half_life_2 Even as glitchy as the Steam Engine occasionally is, it is also a model of ergonomics and simplicity. That you can us the Steam interface to view game trailers, purchase games, receive updates, manage and maintain contact with friends, and even create new maps for games that support that feature. Frankly, if it had near-bulletproof reliability, this would be what the future of gaminig - both PC and console - should look like. And, as for Half-Life 2 itself? Well, it has all the great hallmarks of a great story and a great game: interesting hero, shadowy, mysterious and powerful enemies/villains, a compelling storyline, intelligent supporting characters, great graphics, and more. There is no other game in my collection - including Halo and Ghost Recon - which have commanded so manyof my entertainment hours.
