Devil May Cry 4
$60.00
Released February, 2008
The Pros:Satisfying combos. Somewhat interesting story. Boss fights are actually fun to play compared to Ninja Gaiden 2.
The Cons:No weapon variety with Nero. Repetitive environments. "Gyro-blade" system is really annoying.
Devil May Cry 4 is the fourth installment in the Devil May Cry series, and is simultaneously the first DMC game on next-gen consoles, and the first multiplatform DMC. From the beginning the game sees you taking on the role of Nero a character that looks almost exactly like the regular hero Dante as you battle the usual assortment of monsters and solve the usual assortment of puzzles.

And in no difference to previous entries in the series the game retains its RPG elements as the collected orbs let you upgrade your character's weapons and abilities. The biggest gameplay difference from previous DMCs is Nero's Devil Bringer that lets you grab and throw enemies around performing different kind of combos than Dante is capable of. In true DMC fashion, Nero isn't the only character you control as once you're finished the main quest of the game, you then take on the role of Dante going through the exact same levels all over again. Dante retains much of his moveset from the seminal Devil May Cry 3 with the addition of more elaborate combos and real-time style switching.

Omar:
#devil_may_cry_4 I beat this game over the weekend and I have to say, the more I think about it, the more I dislike it. That's not to say it's an absolutely horrible game, in fact there are parts that are very fun, but man are there some really annoying sections. I will say that the combat is satisfying enough to get through the horrible level design on your first play through. I definitely enjoyed myself the first time through the game, and that includes Dante's section.
However, I tried playing through at a higher difficulty level where my skills have peaked, and now I'm just going through the motions and it's no longer fun. In fact it is less than fun. The game doesn't have the same kind of crazy combos that you're capable of in Ninja Gaiden 2 or Devil May Cry 3, so you can't even have fun just trying out different combos. It becomes a slog through the game, and I just had to say "ENOUGH".
The Bloody Palace combat arena is ok and I can see myself coming back to it every once in a while just to mess around and see how far I can get. The nice thing is that you still get upgrade points while playing in the Bloody Palace mode.
Overall I'm glad I got this game at a discounted price and didn't pick it up day one like many fans of the DMC series got suckered into.
